I have always loved kaleidoscopes. And I had thought a kaleidoscope mapping would be a way to re-use the pixels in a digital image in order to make a larger print than would otherwise be possible.
But what finally got me to try it was a picture of two lizards mating. My friend Lyn wanted a print of it for her young son's gecko-themed bedroom. I thought maybe the subject wasn't entirely appropriate and thought of the kaleidoscope as a way to abstract the image and de-emphasize the fundamental, uh, action portrayed.
